Custom Rigid Box Sample Approval Checklist Before Bulk Production
Rigid boxes carry more sample risk than folding cartons because board thickness, wrap alignment and lid fit all affect how the box feels and holds up. This checklist helps brands review rigid box samples before approving bulk production.
Rigid box samples should be checked for wall rigidity, lid fit, wrap alignment and hinge durability before a brand approves bulk production.
Wall rigidity and board thickness
A rigid box depends on board thickness and wrap tension to hold its shape. Flex or soft corners in the sample usually mean the board caliper or corner construction needs review before bulk production.
- Board caliper matches the approved spec.
- Corner and edge firmness under light pressure.
- Consistency across multiple sample units.
Lid fit and wrap alignment
Lid fit problems are one of the most common rigid box defects, and wrap alignment affects how clean the finished edges look.
- Lid should close with even resistance, not too loose or tight.
- Wrap paper alignment at corners and seams.
- No visible board show-through at edges.
Hinge and repeated-use durability
If the box uses a magnetic or hinged lid meant for repeated opening, the sample should be tested for durability, not only checked once on arrival.
- Open and close the sample multiple times to check hinge wear.
- Magnetic closure strength and alignment.
- Confirmation of the outer carton and packing method for export.
